Melting Point (Ring & Ball method) of hot melt adhesives

The melting point of a hot melt is the temperature at which the hot melt liquefies. Typically, the melting point is determined in the laboratory. by the Ring and Ball method.

Ring and Ball method.
A cooled hotmelt adhesive film is placed in a steel ring. A bullet that fits through the ring is placed on top of this adhesive film. The whole is placed in an oil bath. As soon as the steel ball falls through the hotmeltfilm and touches the bottom is laid down on it the melting point of the hotmelt.

-Hot melt labelling adhesives, mainly using a pick-up and overlap/gluelap adhesive, often used to label (tin) cans and plastic containers

-Self adhesive applications, where a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) is precoated on mostly paper or plastic labels (PP, PE, OPP).

Futura H4048 is a new hot melt adhesive from Intercol that is able to bond hot filled products where other adhesives fail due to high temperatures and residual heat. As thi hot melt glue has a very fast speed of set, it is also resistant to shock loads immediately after bonding.
